The special situation in Yemen and Socotra have also consequences for diving.

The local Nature Reserve Authority (SCDP), requires one of their staff to accompany all diving-activities. This means you need always to have a guide with you, which is formally not qualified at all, but has knowledge of the dive-site and is helpful in arrangements (boats etc.)

This means, the guide will show you the places, but organzing of the dive incl safety-standards is fully up to you. Consequently, Socotra is only advisable for experienced divers.

The guide has to be paid  USD 50 per day, flat rate, no matter if 1 person or a whole group.

Additionally a SCDP-rule says, only 4 divers are allowed at the same time in the water at the same spot.

The local villages demand the right, divers have to use a boat from their village. These boats are huri, 5-6 m long and about 1 m wide.Re-entering these boats from water needs a bit of a trained diver. One boat can take 4 divers.
